So a little fact about me, I love giving gifts.
On top of that, I prefer to make gifts or gift baskets that fit the person and their needs or personality.
I have spent the last couple months making a few gifts for a new friend in my life. She is expecting her first baby! We have only known each other for about a year and live hundreds of miles apart, but we talk semi regularly and are close in age.
She invited me to her baby shower and I can’t be there, but I made her a fun gift and sent it that way so she should get it a couple days before hand. Like I said, I love to personalize gifts. Something I have learned is that you can never have enough fabric based items for babies, ie blankets, clothing items, wash cloths, towels.
I decided to make her a couple baby blankets of different colors and different yarn types. I also painted a simple picture to hang in the babies room.
I enjoy crocheting and painting even though I am nowhere near a pro at either one. They are things I can do that help calm me and relieve some stress. They also are good to help pass some time.
First blanket is a mix of hot pink yarn and a multi-color yarn consisting of blue, green, pink, and white. My go to yarn is Red Heart yarn. All of the ones I have bought have been 100% acrylic. It is good for beginners because it is easy to work with and doesn’t stretch a lot so it allows for more even stitching.
I enjoy working with multi-color yarn because it takes longer for me to get bored and need a break. You can see patterns develop, yet each row remains different.
The other one I made was a purple, cream, brown, blue multi-color. I used a different yarn this time. The brand was Bernat and it was their blanket yarn. This yarn is so soft! I would be content to just dump a bunch on the bed and take a nap. If you have ever pet a chinchilla, it’s that soft. It has more give then what I am used to so I did have to pay attention to my stitches a little closer to make sure that the rows remained even.
I was super impressed with how well both of these turned out. I feel like the more personal the gift the better. It may seem childish to some, but to me it has heart. I love making and receiving homemade gifts because they come from the heart.
I can’t wait until she gets them!!

I love making baby blankets for so many of these reasons. There’s a sense of accomplishment and the ability to see the pattern play out, but they’re relatively quick to make!
Cute blankets! I love multi-colored yarn, too.
So much fun in these. And even at 4 my kids a are still carrying around some of their baby blanket gifts.
